Currency

The Philippine currency is the piso (peso). Other currencies, including the British £ sterling and U.S. dollars can be easily exchanged. Travelers cheques can be cashed at local banks. Euro cheques are not usually accepted. Money changers are also available, but there is no advantage in black market exchanges.

Health

No particular innoculations are required, but travelers are always advised to have a current tetanus vaccination. The Bohol enviroment is free of malaria, but for journeys to places like Mindanao or Palawan, malaria precautions are recommended. Your local physician can give you relevant information regarding vaccinations. Hospitals, physicians and pharmacies are available in Tagbilaran, approximately 30 minutes from Alona Beach.

Power Supply

Supply is 220V which can fluctuate and may occasionally break down. Note: with automatic battery chargers, the charge cycle resumes from the start after a power failure. Standard plugs are of the flat pin U.S. type without separate grounding (earth).

Shopping

Beverages, cigarettes and basic toiletries are available at the beach. A wider range of supplies, including exclusive Swiss delicassies, are available in Tagbilaran.

Films and photography :

Filipinos are by no means camera-shy, and will gladly be photographed. However, for the sake of politeness, you should ask their permission beforehand. Film and developing are readily available.
